Linux vs Microsoft Windows?
Linux netbooks have a customised, purpose designed, home screen with large icons. They usually come preloaded with a lot more software which are functionally equivalent of software you would normally have to pay for in Windows.
ASUS have over 3000 software applications available for you to download from their software portal.
The Advantage of choosing a Windows XP netbook is that most are familiar with Windows so the netbook can be used right away.
Microsoft Vista Support?
At the moment only the HP 2140 Mini-note Netbook supports Vista Business.
Solid State Flash Drive or Hard Drive?
Solid state drives have the advantage of being faster and quieter than a hard drive. Solid state drives will allow for a faster boot up time. Typically hard drives are larger in capacity compared to solid state drives and are generally cheaper.
White or Black?
Personal preference really. We find business professionals tend to prefer black whilst home users prefer white or the other colours that may be available. Black does have the advantage of hiding marks from dirty hands and scuffs a lot better. Certain models are a piano glossy black which tends to show fingerprints.
1GB vs 2GB Memory
We find that an upgrade to 2GB of memory is more worthwhile for Windows XP based netbooks compared to those running Linux
Intel Celeron M vs Intel Atom
In testing it was found the simpler architecture of the Intel Atom provides for better overall system performance whilst still being more efficient on battery life compared to the Intel Celeron M 900MHz which delivers strong CPU performance at the expense of decreased battery life.
